Excellent question and quite frankly i would go beyond the poll data you cited and point out that even the controversy prior to last mondays myrtle beach exchange in terms of responding to the statements by president clinton and senator clinton expecially statements by several of obamas surrogates particularly as we move toward the south carolina democratic primary with its high percentage of african american voters as well as the fact that this is a must win state for obama one is left with this notion that he might end up winning the state but be labeled as the black candidate. African americans still are favorably disposed toward the clintons even after recent events and even with some of the voters shifting to obama. And the large industrial states is there a danger obama could go into super tuesday as the black candidate allowing clinton to pick up all other demographic groups that is something to think about and many have made that charge and suggested that this was a strategy by the clinton campaign making those charges and forcing him to respond. African americans have not only been loyal supporters of the democrats some would say to a fault. I fully expect unless something of earth shattering proportions take place that south carolina will remain in the republican column in november the south is the base of the republican party. So regardless of how that might unfold south carolina is not expected to go democratic in november.
